Ask Your Questions Here

I've set up this page to take questions you may have about guitar chords, scales, soloing etc. And suggestions for what you want to see on the Free Guitar Chords web site.

I'll do my best to answer all questions and will make videos where it will help. :)

Don't be shy… the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. :)

Hi again J.B. Thanks a mil for your explanation to my last question re about the difference between major and minor chords, so easy to understand with your explanation. My next question is: how are the major and minor pentatonic chords formed from the pentaonic scale? having probs grasping this one. Many thanks, Michael.

JB @ 4:03 am

Eh what? Chords from pentatonic scales? Where did you get that idea from?

Give me some idea of where you are coming from. I think you may be a little confused or getting way ahead of yourself…. maybe. Let me know.

That's not to say you can't use pentatonics to create some cool chord shapes and sounds… you can. :)

Hi J.B. I have been over your series of 7 e-book lessons several times, and it has helped me immensley! The information is clear and easy to follow (unlike alot of sites) and has opened alot of doors for me and cleared up alot of foggy areas. Thank you!!!

G'day J.B. I just want to thank you so much for the free seven part course that you have so generously made available to all of us out here. As a mature age guitar student I have found the course invaluable. The content, explanations and videos (along with your patience) are second to none. Anyway. thanks again. Hooroo. Michael

Does anyone know of a web site that can take my input and translate the information into a guitar chord? Why I ask is that I experiment a lot and I don't know enough to name a chord and the lists I've found don't show them. It would help me mucho to know. Thanks! –Tag

If you input notes there are many different chords those notes can be called.

You need a context. A key, for example, to get a specific recommendation for a chord name.

You need to learn about chord voicings and how they can be applied.

For example…

The notes C E Gb B could be called:
Cma7b5
E9(b13)
Bsus4(b9)

There may be software that will do what you want, I don't know.

But if you want to give your brain a workout I'd suggest checking this out…
Mel Bays Complete Book of Harmony Theory and Voicing

Thanks! I meant a web site with neck diagrams. If I could find one that would let me mark where I'm putting my fingers and then tell me what the chord is I'd be ecstatic. I've decided to take lessons but I am dyslexic (and left handed) and have a lot of trouble with music. It took me a long time to learn to read when I was a child.
