Struggling with guitar? You may have been playing a while, or perhaps you haven't even started yet. Either way, if you've spent any time looking for guitar lessons online, you've probably seen a lot of them and wondered which (if any) are worth your hard-earned money.
Of all the products I've looked at, Learn & Master Guitar was the clear winner, with Jamorama coming in 4th as the best of the downloadable "e-courses." Here's a quick summary of my five favorites:

Learn & Master Guitar by Legacy Learning Systems received the only perfect score of all the guitar instruction courses reviewed and tested. It contains 10 DVDs, 5 CDs, a lesson book and has unlimited support from real guitar instructors including Steve Krenz. Designed for both acoustic and electric guitar it quickly takes you step-by-step from the basics to very advanced techniques. You receive the equivalent of 12-18 months worth of top-notch lessons and unlimited ongoing support. So in the long run it works out to be very good value indeed. However, read my full review for some tips on how to get it at a discount. |

Team Guitar Method is a new product and has been put out by Ben Edwards and the team at Jamorama. The concept is to use several different instructors. While it good to learn things from different people, this can be tough going for total beginners. It contains 5 DVDs, 6 CDs and workbooks. This is also a pricey product but doesn't offer the same depth and quality of information. However, there is a downloadable version which gives a considerable saving. |

Speed Learn Guitar is another new product. Put out by Chris Elmore from Australia it basically gives you access to 5 different websites of Chris' that cover 5 different products. Learn on site or download to your computer. Beware the 'hypey' website. If you like learning in front of a computer, you may get some value from this course. Material is adequate but doesn't really measure up for serious learners. |

Jamorama is a downloadable "e-course" that you can use on your computer. A very popular internet learn guitar method. It's been around a while but has now been superceded by new multi-media technology which is much easier to learn with. E-courses are usually inexpensive and offer immediate gratification - no shipping and no waiting. But in general they are fairly awkward to use because you have to sit in front of your computer to do the lessons. And material covered is not comprehensive enough. |

Guitar Songs is one of the modules of Speed Learn Guitar. Unfortunately it only shows you how to play specific songs. If you are just a dabbler, and not really serious about learning guitar properly, then this is a lot of fun. Just be aware that you do need a certain level of skill and experience to play a lot of these songs. You could become very frustrated quite quickly. Download available. |
