Most beginners learn guitar the wrong way!

They learn a bit here and a bit there from friends, magazines and forums, guitar tab, and other free guitar lesson sites on the internet. While this is ok and can be lots of fun, most make learning this way their ONLY way. Big mistake.

Learning to play guitar like this is the least rewarding in the long run. Fun to start with but full of danger as you progress. If you want slow progress filled with confusion, frustration and failure, then this is the way to learn to play guitar.

I call these types of learners "noodlers". They have no real structure for their learning nor do they have a clear path that leads from one simple guitar-playing-step to the next. They are all over the place like a ship without a rudder.

And as I say, sure it is fun to try to play difficult guitar songs, don't spend too much time doing that. Strike a balance between learning to play the basics properly with serious practice time and keep your 'noodling' separate in your spare time.
