Guitar Instruction Dvd's, Videos, Books etc.
Below is a list of beginner guitar instruction methods I
recommened and use with my personal students.
Don't make the mistake of buying too many books looking for
the 'magic bullet.' The problem with having too many books is
that you could end up with paralysis by analysis. Meaning
you'll become confused and not know what to do next for maximum
progress.
Just select ONE book (or DVD Course) to start with and
complete that first. My recommendation is the Ernie Ball books
or the Hal Leonard Complete Edition because these focus on
giving you a good grounding in the basics. And you need that,
no matter what style you'll eventually choose to play most..
blues, metal, rock, country etc. Get the basics down first! It
will save you a LOT of time and heartache in the long run.
However, while these books are great, you can't beat
being able to watch someone play examples you can follow along
with. That's why getting a 'good' teacher is the preferred way
to learn. But 'good' teachers are hard to find... especially
when starting out and you don't know what to look for in a
teacher.
Because of this, I very strongly recommend you
get the 20 DVD package of Learn & Master
Guitar. This is an excellent product and
is very well presented. It covers everything you need to
know to lay a very solid foundation of the basics. And
you'll do it faster than most beginners.
The best part is that you can watch the lessons and check
you are doing them properly. This saves you a LOT of time
overall.
