Dear Friend,
As you read and
think about every word of this letter you'll
begin to understand how to get the real skills
you need to play hot guitar... much sooner
than you thought possible.
But perhaps the
most important lesson you will learn, is that
there are no shortcuts. There are no 'play
like a pro in 30 minutes, a weekend, or 7 days' quick fixes.
They just don't exist. Don't be suckered in by them.
If you are really serious
about wanting to learn and play guitar to the
best of your ability in as short a time as possible, then
please read on...
The 3 Deadly Mistakes Most Beginners
Don't Even Know They Make!
| 1: |
NOT
learning to use your hands and fingers properly
- developing bad habits which stunts
technique and can take years to fix. |
| 2: |
NOT
learning basic music theory - because you
think it's too hard, boring or tricky. But it's
the biggest shortcut to learning guitar
fast! |
| 3: |
NOT
practicing the basics on a regular basis -
the pro's practice the basics every day... you
should too. Always practice chord
progressions. |
FACT:
Over 90% of beginners NEVER master the
basics!
That's because
they don't truly understand what the basics really
involve...
... You
probably think the basics are just learning a few 'basic'
chords, a scale or two and away you go - right? And
because of this you have just rushed in and started
learning those chords and some songs from tabs off the net
and/or your mates, or, from some books.
|
The problem with this
approach is that you soon find
yourself learning bits and pieces of songs
but you never seem to learn and
master a complete song in its
entirety!
This is because you
don't understand or have the necessary
motor-skills yet to play some songs. You tend
to bite off more than you can chew.
Now, it is
important to try more difficult things to
stretch yourself,
but more
importantly... you need to take a
stepping-stone approach to developing
the necessary skills. Where one skill
leads to the development of the next and so
on.
This really is the fast
and easy way. There's no need to try
and reinvent the wheel so to
speak.
|
You need
understand that the basics are extremely
important...
especially if you want to
set yourself up for learning
fast and for being able to play effortlessly
with good technique.
There are 3
areas I'll talk about that you need to be aware
of and give the necessary daily
attention to when learning to play
guitar...
-
You
will learn how to
use your hands and fingers the correct way to
avoid excess tension and
wasted movement. This applies to
the fretting and picking hands. Getting this wrong,
(as most do), will severely limit your
technique and the speed at which you can play and
learn.
-
You
will discover the importance
of basic music 'theory' of what scales and
chords are. If there is a
shortcut, then this is it! This basic
knowledge can help you learn to play songs
3, 5, 7 or even 15 times faster
than those without this knowledge! In other words,
you will make more efficient use of your
practice time to gain a
potent unfair advantage over everyone
else.
-
You
will also begin to
understand how to practice,
what to practice and when to
practice... rather than wasting valuable
time flitting from one thing to another like most
beginners. Rather than being like a directionless
ship without a rudder you
will have direction and
purpose and you will
achieve your guitar playing dreams very
quickly.
How To Train Muscle-Memory That Allows
You To Play Perfectly Every Time -
Automatically!
One of the most important
aspects of playing guitar is how you
train your hands and fingers to do their
job. It's better to be aware of this before you
develop bad habits that will surely make learning much
harder and much slower than necessary. Bad
habits can stop you like a brick wall and
make your job many times harder. Why take the risk?
Just as a skilled surgeon
must have sure, well-trained and practiced hands, so too must
you as a guitar player.
You want
your fingers to move smoothly and effortlessly
from chord to chord and note to note with the precision of a
scalpel --just like a surgeon-- without fumbling and without
excess tension or tightness. No slips please. :)
- Practice
everything very slowly, accurately, relaxed
as you can and as perfectly as
possible. DON'T PRACTICE
MISTAKES!
Forget the idea that
"practice makes perfect" and think
"PERFECT Practice Makes
Perfect" instead. (And always remember to
practice very slowly and as relaxed as possible.)
SLOW-RELAXED-PERFECT - remember that.
Relaxed means no body or hand or finger tension. Relax your
head, shoulders, stomach, legs, arms, hands and fingers.
Any tension in your body when practicing
will cause long-term harm
to your ability to develop technique and can also cause
shoulder, elbow and hand injuries if you overdo it.
Pay very close attention to your body while practicing to
ensure you are RELAXED and don't press too
hard.
- Minimize your
finger movements to eliminate extra distance
fingers travel to the next chord or note position.
Shortest distance between 2 points is a straight
line.
Analyze how your fingers move. Do they
stick out away from the strings when you move from chord to
chord? Do they move away from where they are meant to be
going instead of directly towards where they are going?
DON'T RUSH THIS
PROCESS! Slow and relaxed is the
key to developing perfect muscle-memory that will enable
you to develop an effortless, fast and perfect playing
technique. Tension and wasted movement kills
everything. It may seem your progress is slower in the
short-term, but it will pay HUGE dividends for
you.
- Never press
too hard. Remove all excess tension from your
fingers, hands and body when practicing. You want a nice
light touch. (Too much tension slows you down and
develops very bad habits which are hard to undo at
a later date.)
How you train your hands
and body to react when playing guitar is the most overlooked
problem players make. Taking care of this right from
the start will save you a lot of time and help
prevent injuries. You want to spend your
time moving forward... NOT
going back and fixing mistakes and bad
habits!
The best way to understand
and learn about this very important subject is to study with a
teacher, or, purchase a book.

Discover The Power of How Basic Music Theory
Can Make Your Job Of Learning Guitar As Step-By-Step Simple As
A B C.
Music follows a
structure. That structure is called a
'key'.
There are 12
keys you can play music in. And these keys can be
either Major or Minor keys. (Major keys
are bright and happy... Minor keys are sad and moody.) For
example... C Major or C Minor.
|
NOTE: There are only
12 different notes
available on modern Western European
musical instruments. Guitars, pianos,
saxophones etc only have 12 available notes to
play with. (Other cultures have more or less
than 12 notes on their instruments.)
A
key is made for each of
those 12 available notes by using a unique
combination of just 7 of the 12 available
notes.
That means
there are 12 unique combinations of 7-note
scales.
There are
other scales too, but they are not important at
this stage.
|
Each key is made up of a
scale with 7 notes. And each of those
notes has a chord associated with
it.
For example... the
key (or scale)
of C major has 7 notes... C D E F G A B and each of those notes
has a chord attached to it.
C major, D minor, E
minor, F major, G major, A minor and B diminished. So
if you are playing a song in the key of C major, those are the
chords that are used.
There are some other chords
that are used at times that are "borrowed" from other
keys.
The thing is,
once you understand the structure of the C
major scale, the rest is easy. That's because
every other scale (key) uses the exact same structure and
sequence of chord types. The exact same patterns and
organization... it's just that they are "shifted" to a
different place on the fretboard. This knowledge saves so
much time you'd be silly to ignore it.
The Magic Number System You Can Use To Play Any Song In Any
Key—Instantly!
Once you understand how scales and keys
work, you can implement a Magic Number system
that gives each chord a number. You can then use the numbers to
transpose a song to any other key—instantly—right on
the spot!
Just imagine how popular that
skill will make you amongst your friends or band mates
or even people you want to impress. Powerful stuff.
The Magic Number system is explained
fully in the free ebooks I'll give you when you give my newsletter a
try.
Make The Basics A Part Of Your Daily Practice Schedule
For Amazing Results
The real trick is
to be able to play any song in any key at any time.
This is the ultimate goal of any musician. And professional
musicians practice this every day.
They do this by practicing
"common patterns" called chord progressions. And they
do it in every key.
The sooner you learn how to do this the better off
you will be!
Trouble is, most beginners
never learn how to do this. They think
it's too hard and boring. They'd sooner have fun learning and
playing songs... even if they can't play them properly or
completely. But it doesn't have to be that way for
you.
So the thing to do is to
have a systematic approach that leads from one
stepping stone to the next. Work with the
basics every day by adding them to your practice routine. Even
as little as 15 minutes a day will go a
long way to improving your comprehension, skills and guitar
playing abilities dramatically. You truly can slash
months or years off your learning time!
Of course, the best
way to do this is to follow a plan devised by a
teacher. But if you can't afford a teacher, or don't
have access to a teacher, then there are some excellent
guitar courses available online that will give you
what you need...
... The best course I have
seen to date is Learn and Master
Guitar.
It has 10
brilliantly produced DVD's with graduated lessons from
beginner through to jazz. It also comes with
5 play along cd's recorded with professional studio
musicians. In my opinion this course leaves all the
others for dead. It's the course I wish I had when I was
struggling to learn guitar back in the 60's. It took a
whole year just to create it!
It's not cheap but
when compared to paying a teacher or trying to do it
all on the cheap, it offers a tremendous saving in time and
effort. Well worth the purchase price. You
can't go wrong and they have a 100% money back
guarantee.
